Shoalhaven Minor 3rd grade travelled to Fairy Meadow to face Pirates Blue on Sunday. With a full team and cheer squad the team started positively.
Mariners managed 2 runs in the first at bat with hits to Anthony Burgess and Stephen Pearson reflected the team attitude. Pirates responded with 10 runs over the plate. A real challenge for Mariners. Colin Barnes taking an outstanding catch in centre field.
Second innings Mariners responded with all nine players batting scoring 5 runs. Hits to Anthony Burgess, Tausia Antonio and Stephen Pearson. With the score at 10-7 a change of pitcher limited Pirates to a further 7 runs from 7 good hits. Mariners fielding improved in this innings too with Chris Keith featuring in all three outs. Mariners came out to bat and despite two hits were unable to add to the total. Pirates too made a good hit but were unable to add to the score with tight fielding by Mariners. A final dig saw Mariners get five players on base, with two hits to score a further two runs.
Pitching was shared by Stephen Pearson (43 pitches 16 strikes with 1 strikeout) and Tausia Antonio (79 pitches 50 strikes with 3 strikeouts). Final score 17-9 to Pirates A game played in good spirits appearing much closer than the score revealed.
