Saturday saw Mariners second grade visit Cringila to play top of the table Cardinals. Mariners were down early with Carinals scoring 3 runs in the first. Mariners usually hot hitters were cold. Hits to Kai Meuronen and Gabe Tate brought about the first 2 runs for Mariners.
In the top of the 3rd inning, a base hit from Lee Lawson, bunt single from Ben Elliott and a timely walk to Michael Vine would load the bases for the Mariners with no outs. The next two batters popped out in foul ground and struckout. Up to the plate was Mariners veteran & coach Gabe Tate. Gabe hit a clearing double to make it 5 – 3 Mariners. Singles to both Marcus Atkinson and Kieran Harris plated another run to make the score 6-3 Mariners. Bottom of the innings. A walk and a few bad bounces infield saw Cardinals hit back to make it 6-5.
An RBI single to Kai Meuronen would plate another for Mariners to go up 7-5 in the final inning. A walk and a base hit, with no outs for cardinals, a single would plate another run. Under pressure, an outfield hit plated another run drawing the game and put the winning run on 3rd.A great catch in foul ground from Michael Vine and a ground ball to Marcus Atkinson would secure the final two outs.
