Second Grade took on Eagles 2 at Berkely on Saturday and decided that this weekend was up for grabs. From the first at bat Mariners were determined.
As the visitors, Mariners stepped up to the plate first. Michael Vine got the hitting started, then both Kai Meuronen and Brenton McMahon were struck by pitches loading the bases. A passed ball allowed Mariners to strike first, disappointingly it was the only run produced this inning.
Berkeley got hitting early as well, 2 hits in the first as Glen Needham hit a line drive to open the game, and a walk to Darren O’Connell. Mariners were in strife early. Mariners starting pitcher Bailey Biden then struck out Graeme Miller on 3 pitches. Berkeley Slugger Vince Pleski knocked in the teams’ first run on a line drive to right field. Biden then struck out the next two batters in order.
The next Inning saw Mariners plate 6 to lead 7-1. Biden would then retire the next 3 hitters in order. A sound position to be in. Play continued going Mariners’ way.
Special Mention to Kai Meuronen & Gabe Tate who had 6 RBIs between them. Lee Lawson stole 3 bags on the day, both Bailey Biden and Brenton McMahon were stellar on the mound. Both struck out Berkeley Power Bat Vince Pleski!
Hits went to Lee Lawson (2) Michael Vine (2) Kai Meuronen (2) Brenton McMahon (2) Gabe Tate (2) Marcus Atkinson (2) Bailey Biden & Dan Kelly.
Pitchers Final Line – Bailey Biden 4 innings, 2 hits, 5 Strikeouts, 4 Walks and 2 Earned Runs and Brenton McMahon 1 Inning – 0hits 2 Strikeouts 0 Walks 0 Runs.
The Shoalhaven Mariners had notched their second win in as many games on Saturday, commanding 15-2 performance over the Berkeley Eagles.
