Warriors travelled down to ISON Park to face Shoalhaven Mariners. Both teams battled the cold and the wind. Warriors batted first and laid down the challenge – 2 hits and one scored. Mariners responded with 4 batters facing but no runs scored. Warriors returned and hit the ball. Five hits and a few too many errors saw 6 runs scored. Mariners were unable to respond – three up, three down. Warriors lead 7-0.
Again Warriors came out and hit the ball – 6 hits and 5 runs across the plate. Time for Mariners to step up. Despite hits by Kalysta Palmer and David Crowley runners were stranded on base. Warriors lead 12- 0. A change of pitcher, Warriors did not add to their total. Mariners responded with hits by Tony Burgess, Tausia Antonio, Ben Quiney and Kalysta Palmer. This time the first three batters crossed the plate but the next two were left stranded after three good catches by Warriors.
One final innings. Warriors first batter hit to Centre Field. Some tight fielding retired Warriors with only one run scored. Mariners at bat. Hits by Tony Burgess and Tausia Antonio saw them advanced around the bases by Ben Quiney ultimately crossing the plate to bring Mariners total to 5. Warriors won 13-5.
Pitching was shared between Tausia Antonio – 65 pitches, 49 strikes, with two strikeouts and Ben Quiney – 34 pitches, 21 strikes and 2 strikeouts. Sue Stibbard was injured during a rundown play for Mariners. She stopped the ball and will have a good black eye to show for it. Get well Sue! Here’s hoping for less errors and more hits next week!
