Panthers turned on the weather and the baseball. After two recent losses to Mariners, Panthers came to the diamond a well-practised team. Batting first Mariners led with three hits to Amber Palmer, Tony Burgess and Tausia Antonio but were only able to score Palmer. Panthers also managed three hits but managed to score five runs, two after Mariner’s errors.
Mariners up to bat. Lead off hit by Tony Provest started the innings well. Stephen Pearson, hitting to left field, brought Provest home for the only run scored this innings. With runners left on Mariners were retired. Panthers then returned with three hits bringing in a further 4 runs. Score 9-2 Panthers.
Again a strong start with hits by Tony Burgess (2 bases), Tausia Antonio and Ben Quiney. Antonio scored Burgess before a double play retired Mariners. Panthers didn’t let up. After two quick outs Mariners struggled to get the third. Three more hits and some wild pitches by Pearson saw 5 runs scored. Panthers lead 13-3.
Mariners bunkered down but failed to add to the score despite hits from Stephen Pearson and Tausia Antonio. They managed to get Panthers out for no score in the fourth innings but after three hits in the fifth Panthers added three more runs. Final score to Panthers 16-3.
