Last Sunday Mariners 2nd grade minors took on the Cardinals 4A side in absolutely horrendous conditions.
In a slightly fiery affair Mariners started in the field with Andrew Pearson on the mound.
Pearson managed to strike out 2 out of the first three batters but not before Cardinals managing to put a run on the board.
When it was Mariners turn to bat they showed their dominance from the word go hitting the ball all over the park with a nice line drive from Stuart Raymond bringing in two out of the first three runs. Then more batting to come bringing in a mighty total of six runs for the innings.
Second innings was nearly a mirror image of the first innings with Pearson striking out only one batter and Mariners leaking one run in for Cardinals.
Once again Mariners bats shone with three multi base hits with Matt Moore’s three base hit being the high light nearly having a home run but getting tagged out at the last minute.
Third inning Pearson was doing well in the difficult conditions striking out two more batters and once again Cardinals scoring one run.
Mariners started to take their foot of the pedal not troubling the scorers that innings.
Fourth innings Cardinals were shut down with no runs scoring due to some impressive fielding from Mariners third baseman Brian Cremin.
With the game getting away from the Cardinal Mariners still put two more runs on the board.
Top of the fifth inning Mariners brought on closing pitcher Austin Raymond who prevented the Cardinals scoring once again.
Mariners didn’t have to come out and bat again getting the win 15/3 with both team glad to see the end of the game in these terrible conditions.
Special thanks to Tony Provest who volunteered to umpire in these conditions.
A huge three base hit went to Matt Moore. Doubles went to Austin Raymond and Stuart Raymond. Singles went to Stuart Raymond (3), Brodie O’Reilly (3), Austin Raymond (2), Leith Grant (2), Brian Cremin 1, Matt Moore 1, Greg Symmans 1, Ben Campbell 1, Andrew Pearson 1.
Pitchers Andrew Pearson 82 pitches 44 strikes and 5 strikeouts. Austin Raymond 19 pitches 13 strikes and 1 strikeout.
