With most of the games called off around the Illawarra due to field closures from poor weather conditions Mariners managed to get their field up to scratch to host the Northern Pirates at home Ison Park South Nowra on Sunday.
Mariners taking the field first with Andrew Pearson on the mound showing his dominance , with no runs scored in the first innings.
Mariners bats started slow, then after Matthew Moore being hit by a pitched ball and reaching base safely Brodie O’Reilly produced a nice hit to centre field allowing Mariners to score 1 run.
Second innings was dominated by both pitchers with both sides having 3 up and 3 down. Third innings saw Pearson’s best innings striking out all 3 batters and in reply Mariners bats fired up producing 5 safe hits bringing in 5 runs.
Fourth innings Pirates tried to stage a come back with the assistance of errors in the field Pirates gaining 3 runs. Bottom of the fourth innings Mariners continued their batting performance bringing in another 4 runs with 4 safe hits.
The next 3 innings the scorers weren’t troubled from either side , with Mariners going on to win the game 10-3.
Andrew Pearson pitched a full game with 92 pitches 61 strikes and 8 strikeouts for an outstanding performance.
Leith Grant had a great catching performance also taking 2 catcher caught stealing’s.
The only double hit of the game going to Brodie O’Reilly with singles going to Austin Raymond (2), Matthew Moore (2), Brodie O’Reilly (2), Leith Grant (2), Andrew Pearson (2) , Brian Cremin and Shawn Carr.
