Fourth Grade Mariners hosted Pirates at home at ison Park. Starting the game Mariners pitcher, Andrew Pearson, shut down Pirates quickly. Responding Mariners first two batters on base after some nice hitting to right field. Hits to Bruce Jones and Stuart Raymond brought in the two runs giving the early lead to Mariners.
In the second Pirates put a couple of runs on the board after some good base running. Mariners bats were still running hot with another four safe hits to bring in three runs. Mariners hold the lead.
In the next innings Mariners were forced to use three pitchers. With six unearned runs across the plate Pirates took the lead. Mariners hot batting streak ended. Unable to worry the scorers Pirates held the lead into the final innings.
Mariners woes didn’t improve with Pirates scoring a further three runs across the plate. In the bottom of the last Mariners managed to add just one more to their tally. As much as this was not the Mariners best game hats off to the players battling on with injuries and doubling up to assist fifth grade. Pirates walked away with a well earnt 14-6 win.
Hitting was good to see. Doubles went to Bruce Jones and Leith Grant whilst singles went to Bruce Jones (2), Stiuart Raymond (2), Austin Raymond, Matt Moore, Tausia Antonio, Clinton Towill, Leith Grant, Jordan Buttfield and Andrew Pearson.
Pitching duties were shared. Andrew Pearson opened with 41 strikes from 79 pitches for one strikeout. Austin Raymond pitched 19 strikes from 38 pitches for 2 strikeouts and Leith Grant pitched 8 strikes for 12 pitches and one strikeout.
