On Sunday Shoalhaven Mariners Minor 3rd grade started the day off at Ison Park South Nowra taking on Wollongong Cardinals 4C team.
Cardinals batted first having 5 safe hits bringing in 4 runs across the plate. Stephen Pearson standing out in Mariners field while pitching and getting 2 strikeouts and assisting with the 3rd out to Colin Barnes for the innings. In reply Mariners came out with 3 safe hits and 3 runs across the plate. Tony Provest, Ben Quiney both having a single hit to left field and Stephen Pearson a single to short stop.
Second innings saw Cardinals come out strong with two double hits to the out field along with a single hit with another 4 runs crossing the plate. Hayley Palmer and Tony Provest both took great catches in the field. Mariners came out fighting giving it all they had with four safe hits bringing across 5 runs. Alex Davis had an outstanding triple hit to leftfield and Anthony Burgess who had a great double to right field both bringing in 2 runs each out of the 5.David Crowley and Colin Barnes each had a single hit.
Third innings Cardinals got stronger as the game went on having 4 safe hits bringing in 6 runs. Weather conditions took its toll in the field for Mariners causing a few costly errors. Mariners unfortunately had no safe hits but were still able to put 2 runs over the plate giving Cardinals the win of 14 – 10.
Pitching duties shared between Stephen Pearson 59 pitches 30 strikes with 3 strikeouts and Colin Barnes 47 pitches 24 strikes with 1 strikeout.
This was a fantastic game for Mariners with a tied result after the 2nd innings with a team showing so much improvement. Well done to everyone involved.
