On Sunday, a cold miserable rainy day at Ison Park South Nowra Mariners took on front runners Wollongong Cardinals 3b team.
Andrew Pearson started on the mound for Mariners, he did a fine job in the conditions not allowing Cardinals to score in the first innings.
With Mariners first turn to bat ,our first two batters starting well. Austin Raymond first up, hit a single to right field followed by Brian Cremin who hit a double to left field bringing in our only run for the innings.
Second innings saw Mariners pitcher Andrew Pearson surcome to the pressure of the day with poor conditions on the mound and Austin Raymond coming in to finish the game. Mariners allowing 5 runs across.
Unfortunately Mariners were unable to get a safe hit or any runs in.
Third innings Mariners were warming up with a much tighter innings only allowing Cardinals to score 2 runs. Mariners replied with Brian Cremin a double to left field, Stuart Raymond and Gabe Tate both having a single to left field bringing in 2 runs.
The fourth saw both teams scoreless with three up and three down.
The fifth and final innings Mariners kept Cardinals scoreless with only 1 safe hit coming from Cardinals hitter of the day Damian Abbott. With Mariners trailing and our first two batters out, Brian Cremin hit a solo home run out of the park for Mariners also being the only run of the innings.
Wollongong Cardinals winning 7 – 4
Pitching duties shared, Andrew Pearson 44 pitches 19 strikes and 2 strikeouts and Austin Raymond 76 pitches 45 strikes and 5 strikeouts.
Both teams having only 6 safe hits with Brian Cremin being Mariners stand out of the day.
