Fifth Grade played Dapto Panthers at Berkeley on Father’s Day. First innings started with Mariners up to bat first having a few good hits. This brought 4 runs in to start the day. Panthers up to bat saw Panthers capitalise on a few errors to bring in 3 runs.
Second innings was a quick one for Mariners with pitching proving too strong and no runs added. Panthers had a nice hit into left field to bring in 1 extra run to bring the score to an equal 4-4. Tony Burgess taking an impressive catch in centre field for the final out of the innings.
Third innings saw some nice hits by Mariners but Panthers fielding upped their game again not allowing any runs to be scored. Panthers had a big double base hit out to right field. This led to the only run scored for the innings. Panthers took the lead.
Fourth innings saw Mariners put 1 more run on the board with Bianca Cotter sliding into home plate. Again the score was equal. Panthers up to bat brought in 2 more runs after some quick stolen bases to take the lead 7-5.
Fifth and Final innings was Mariners last chance. It became their best innings, gaining an impressive 6 runs. Panthers came up to bat to face closing pitcher Stuart Raymond. Combined with great fielding Mariners shut Panthers down to win the game 11-7.
Hits for the day were Bruce Jones, Bruce Hennessey, Chris Keith and Matthew Moore (double).
Pitching for the day was shared between Bruce Jones throwing 87 pitches, 39 strikes and 5 strikeouts, Bianca Cotter throwing 38 pitches, 14 strikes and 2 strikeouts and closer Stuart Raymond throwing 21 pitches for 8 strikes.
