On Sunday Shoalhaven Mariners 5th Grade baseball team played Northern Pirates at home, Ison Park South Nowra .
Mariners started strong in the field with 3 up, 3 down and zero runs. Mariners starting pitcher Chris Keith did a great job on the mound with support from Mackenzie Mannix, Carmen Wallace-Mitchell and Greg Turner.
Second innings, the Mariners stayed strong once again with keeping the Pirates scoreless. An impressive reflex catch by Chris Keith off his own pitching was the highlight. Mariners came out with their best performance of the season so far with the bats, bringing over 10 earned runs for the innings.
Third innings, Mariners wheels fell off with some crucial errors in the field allowing Pirates 9 runs with Mariners only able to bring 1 run over the plate. Mariners still in front 11-9.
Last innings of the game saw Ben Quiney on the mound. Chris Keith had a great catch out in right field to start the innings off. Again a few errors in the field, which allowed Pirates to score 4 runs. Pirates Kirra Hamilton on the mound did well keeping Mariners scoreless for the innings.
Most of the game the infield was working like it should, with a strong effort from Mackenzie Mannix at short stop delivering multiple outs at first base with Greg Turner who was equally strong receiving the balls at first base. Catcher Kalysta Palmer had a top effort today despite the constant moving of the ball.
The only double base hit of the day went to Greg Turner with singles going to Mackenzie Mannix, Kalysta Palmer, Greg Turner, Chris Keith, Alex Ormaechea, Ben Quiney and Garry Webster.Well done 5th Grade.
